CLOUDSWAY DANCE THEATRE - Sansei: The Storyteller

7-minute Showcase Presentation

Created and performed by Kunji Mark Ikeda. On December 7, 1941, an attack on Pearl Harbor triggered the internment and dispossession of tens of thousands of Japanese Canadians. In a tale that is both illuminating and profoundly personal to Ikeda, layers of dance, narrative, historical audio, and family recollections are woven together in a moving exploration of his family’s experiences. By David van Belle and Eric Rose. With captivating imagery, animated objects and creative use of scale, GIANT boisterously tracks the life and stardom of André the Giant. It also examines his struggles with gigantism. A female cast provides indispensable lenses for interrogating the hyper-masculine world of professional wrestling. “It is an achievement worthy of its title.” The Calgary Herald. INSIDE OUT THEATRE - Good Host Audience Accessibility Program

10-minute Showcase Presentation

Through Good Host, Inside Out Theatre works with other presenters to improve theatre’s accessibility for audience members and to ensure their equity and dignity in attending performing arts. Inside Out opens up the theatre going experience by facilitating a full spectrum of accessible performances like ASL Interpreted nights, Audio Described plays, and Relaxed Performances. Uniquely, through its work with multiple presenting partners in Calgary, it offers a year-round accessible season for local audiences.
